Skate Incognito Issue #3 premier

For those of you that don’t know, Skate Incognito is one of the best things to happen to the skateboarding scene in Sac in a long time.  It’s an online multi-media magazine and with a solid group of creative minds behind it.  It’s also helping the scene thrive to have such a relentless hard working crew on a constant mission to skate and create artwork.  Seriously great work guys.. keep it up.  Issue #3 was just released so we celebrated with a little shindig at the Lurk Hard / Official warehouse.   I got down their early and hung some photos for the event.  Here’s the recap…

Alli and Satsi

Alli Galaxy and Satsi Sonic have recently merged into one epic supernova.  I was honored to be a part of this day.. it was truly one of the most magical and moving unions I have ever witnesses (and I’ve witnessed lots).

Most weddings the guys are guzzling booze prior to the event.  Not these guys

Satsi was crying tears of joy when he first saw his beautiful bride.

Smudging is a traditional method of clearing any negative energy from peoples hearts, bodies and minds.  The smoky sunlight and sweet smell of sage transformed the forest into a spectacular sacred space.

Priestess Tasha, always with a warm smile and an open heart.

I broke down after the ceremony and melted for a couple moments with the newlyweds.

Shinneyboo Creek Campgrounds is the place to be if you want a forest wedding with tons of camping and amazing swimming holes.

Bad Unkl Sista not only designed the dress but she also did a powerful and evocative  Butoh dance.

I can’t speak highly enough about the amazing people who helped bring this together for the lucky couple.  Here’s a list of some of the champions of the day:

Phil and Jenn

I’ve said it before but I would like to reiterate that Beatnik always seems to get the coolest and most fun-loving clients. In fact Jenn and Phil are so cool that when we were dragging them around in blazing hot alleyways, on a 110 degree day, looking for some awesome shots, they never even broke a sweat! Thanks for making our work fun and easy! Big shout out and thank you to Josh from Josh Gatlin Photography for assisting on this one.

Another happy Beatnik Client! Congrats Jenn and Phil!

Summer Road Trip

Well our road trip came and went in a blur this year but we made the most of it. We went to 8 different skateparks, 3 different hot springs and visited the oldest living things on the planet. We visited the Falcke’s at the Orchard House in Genoa NV where Rik and I played our first open mic at the oldest Bar in Nevada. We camped next to the Volcom Brothers park in Mammoth Lakes and shared coffee with some extreme families. These families pull up to the park early in the morning in off road mini vans. After mom, dad and the 2.5 kids get all padded up they commence shredding in the dangerously massive bowls at this park. I’ve never seen so many 10 year olds doing frontside airs out of 14ft transitions. Too much for us so we found the older, much smaller Mammoth Lakes park and skated the flat bar. The lakes were breathtaking (literally because it was all glacial runoff) and the camping was proper. We crash camped around never staying in the same place twice and cooking our meals over a hole in the ground. Visiting the Bristle Cone Pines was peaceful and spiritually charging as always. Up in the white mountains we got the kind of weather photographers dream of and to top it off we had a relentless lightning storm on our way back down into Owens valley. Thanks for checking out my photos.. There’s a story behind each image and I’d love to share them with you soon.
Peace,
Wes Davis

Alli and Satsi • Nevada City Engagement

I’m thrilled that Alli and Satsi found me to photograph their wedding for lots of reasons. Alli worked in the wedding business for a long time as a videographer so she knows what she likes and appreciates good photography. It’s a great compliment that she chose me after a long search for a local photographer. Also Alli and Satsi are party animals, musicians, artists and lovers of life. They are fiery and bold and not afraid to rage! Lindsay Calmettes and I had a great time shooting their engagement on the Yuba River in Nevada City where they live. The wedding is up in the mountains later in August so stay tuned for some epic camping / wedding shots. I can only imagine what these two have cooking for their weekend wedding in the mountains!
